We are a network of cultural and development organisations from Asia, Africa, South America and Europe whose goal is to enhance the sustainability of partner organisations through cultural and social entrepreneurship as well as professionalism of the sector. We do this through capacity building activities; fostering cultural entrepreneurship; exchanges; lobby and advocacy. UCD was founded in January 2007 and as of September 2010 has a Secretariat that is based in Nairobi, Kenya. We currently have 14 partners from across the globe.
Vision, goal and objectives UCD Network
The vision of the UCD Network is to develop arts and culture into a professional and integral part of the economy therefore stimulating development.
The goal of the network is to enhance sustainability of the partner organisations through cultural and social entrepreneurship as well as professionalism of the sector.
The objectives of UCD are:
- Improve the capacity of partner organizations
- Increase income for member-partners and artists
- Improve the social, cultural and artistic quality of the output of partner activities
- Increase the focus in marketing and communication for UCD Network;
- Reinforce the lobby capacity for the monetary and non-monetary objectives of the UCD Network.
- Become a sustainable independent Cultural Entrepreneur
Our Activities
The activities are divided into 2 parts:
- High art exchanges : those that are partly or completely funded by the market – professional gigs and production contracts.
- Activities that require funding which are:
- Capacity building for organisational development and artistic development
- International Exchanges
- Lobby and Advocacy for Culture and Development
As entrepreneurship is an important focus within the activities of the members, there is a clear vision of the quality of products the partners deliver within UCD Network.
